unable to launch Dialpad app from .NET web application in Windows

I am trying to launch the dialpad app from a users laptop or from their mobile device. The Dialpad url seems to work on a mobile device, but from a windows laptop in Chrome or Edge, it just tries to search the web for it.

Example Dialpad URL I am generating: dialpad://+15025551234?launchMinimode=1&fromNumber=+150212365471&launchMinimode&crmLogging=0&showDispositions=1

if I email a link like this to my phone then it opens the mobile Dialpad app ready to call, but when I try to open this on my windows 10 laptop, regardless of browser, it just tries to search the web. I have the Dialpad app installed on the laptop. Is there an issue with the URL or more configuration on the windows machine needed?
